WOMEN

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

O Prophet, they consult you concerning women! Enjoin the believing men to ‘turn their eyes away from temptation’ and ‘guard their private parts’ — except with those joined to them in the marriage bond. Enjoin the believing women to ‘lower their gaze’ and ‘guard their modesty’ and do not reveal their beauty except to their husbands -- and that they should not ‘stamp their feet’ in order to draw attention to their hidden garments!

O you who believe! This instruction is for all among you, and against the rulers of this present darkness! Men ‘have authority’ over women, because Allah has made the one to excel the other. Such are the bounds set by Allah, He has set a measure for all things. Put on ‘the armor of Allah’ that you may be able to stand the wiles of the devil!

Let not Satan cause you to fall into affliction! The woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head — this is most proper. Allah does wish to ‘lighten your difficulties’ — for man was created weak! That is why a woman ought to have a veil on her head, lest one in whose heart is a disease should be moved to desire!

Set your face against the daughters of your people! Because they have ‘grown haughty’ and walk with ‘out-stretched necks’ — mincing along as they walk, and glancing ‘wantonly’ with their eyes! Satan makes them promises, and creates in them ‘false desires’ but to Allah belongs all things in the heavens and on earth. If they repent and amend — Allah accepts repentance of those who do evil in ignorance, and turn to Him in repentance!

If anyone is disposed to be contentious — leave them alone! Allah wishes to remove all uncleanness from you, and make you ‘pure and spotless.’ Unclean women are for unclean men, and unclean men are for unclean women. Good women are for good men, and good men for good women. So that Satan cannot ‘tempt you’ due to lack of control — these are the limits set by Allah, so do not transgress them!

Men, do not be ensnared by women’s beauty! He who looks upon a woman to ‘lust after her’ has committed adultery with her already in his heart. Do not marry unbelieving women until they believe — though their beauty be pleasing, nor let your daughters marry unbelievers. These invite to the Fire, and Allah by His Grace, invites to the Garden. Enjoin your wives and the wives of true believers, to draw their veils close to them when they go abroad — so that they can be recognized, and not molested!

Women! You who are believers — follow not Satan’s footsteps, he will command what is shameful and wrong! You are not like other women, and if you fear Allah — stay in your homes and do not display your finery, as women used to do in the Days of Ignorance! This you are ‘enjoined to do’ and Allah has promised to the believers — men and women, beautiful mansions in the Garden of Eden. A promise binding on Him in Truth, and that is ‘the supreme achievement!’
