THE MENTOR
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful This Book is a Revelation from Him Who is Wise and All-Knowing! He has power over all things! ‘Know’ that it is revealed with Allah’s Knowledge, recited by a witness from Him, and heralded by the Book of Moses. Will you not take heed? Does he not know what they hide and what they reveal? The unbelievers declare: “Why has no angel come with him? He has invented it himself!” ….. Long ago We sent forth Noah to his people, he said: “I have come to warn you plainly!” ….. The unbelieving elders of his people replied: “Indeed we know that you are lying!” ….. Though it be hidden from you, can We compel you to accept it against your will? Think! ‘You’ have argued: “Allah’s will was revealed to Noah.” ….. but none but a few believed with him! Will you not understand? Do not turn away from him with wrongdoing! You can do him no harm! Do you marvel at the ways of Allah? Your Lord’s decree ‘must’ be fulfilled! Shuaib, he said: “My people, I do not wish to argue with you, nor will I ‘stoop’ to that which I forbid you. Dare you ‘turn your backs’ upon Him? Do what you will. You shall know who will be punished and put to shame, and who is lying!” ….. When Our judgment was executed, We delivered Shuaib through ‘Our mercy’ — together with those who shared his Faith. A ‘dreadful cry’ rang above the evil-doers, and when morning came — they were ‘prostrate’ in their dwellings. Like Thamud — gone are the People of Midian! ********** We gave the Scriptures to Moses, but his people disagreed about them! The wrongdoers pursued their worldly pleasures and thus became guilty. Through this ‘the Truth’ is revealed to you, ‘he’ makes plain ‘His Revelations,’ so that you may ‘firmly believe’ in meeting your Lord. Every nation has its ‘mentor.’ He ‘knows’ the visible and the unseen, and none can ward it off! His is ‘the True prayer’ and vain are the prayers of the unbelievers! Are the blind and seeing alike? Is then he who knows the Truth of what has been revealed to you by your Lord, like him that is blind? Truly none will take heed but ‘the wise’ — who join together what He has bidden to be united, and who for the sake of Allah endure with fortitude, and ward off evil with good! Allah gives abundantly to whom He will, and sparingly to whom He pleases! What if this Qur’an was to move Mountains, and make the dead to speak? All things are subject to Allah’s will! Indeed, eternal are its fruits. Every age has its Scripture, and Allah confirms or abrogates what He pleases! None can reverse it, yet they divert themselves with doubt, saying: “A madman!” ….. We created them to reveal the Truth, but of this most men have no knowledge. Taste this, secure against all ills — it is a transcript of Our Eternal Book, Sublime, and full of Wisdom! ********** Many a Prophet did We send forth to the ancients, but they scoffed at each Prophet that rose amongst them! Such then is the example of the ancients — they say: “This is the faith our fathers practiced. We deny the message you have brought. We will not believe in it!” ….. Are they the distributors of your Lord’s blessings? He that does not take heed the warning of ‘the Merciful’ shall have a devil for a companion — though they may think themselves ‘rightly guided!’ Can you not see this is the ‘right path?’ Let Satan not mislead you! Woe to the wrongdoers! We do not wrong them but they wrong themselves. Let them blunder. They shall before long know their error. You are not accountable for what they do. Observe ‘this Faith’ and be united in it. Allah chooses for it whom He will, and guides to it those who repent! Do not be led by their desires, their arguments will have no weight with their Lord!
